Florence’s Smile Guide

I love being a dentist! I enjoy spending the necessary time to transform my patients’ dental problems into quality results. That is one of my main focuses — quality. I want to provide my patients with results that look great, but also function great.
Whether you value esthetics, functionality, or both, I want my patients to know that we strive to make sure we satisfy your values when it comes to your oral health.  From simple fillings to full-smile makeovers, you can rest assured that we will guide you through making the best choices for your oral health.
Dentistry aside, I’m a person just like you.  My amazing wife, Keely, and I have been married for 4 years. We have two boys (John Thomas and Jensen) and a Sheepadoodle named Mabel.
My Family and I enjoy traveling together, especially to the beach.  Key West is one of our favorite places to visit!  We love boat trips on Black River and going fishing.  My wife and I always enjoy a good DIY project,  so she keeps me pretty busy with those. I’ve played music for most of my life. Throughout college, my band played around the Florence area regularIy. I currently play guitar and sing at my church, Great Commission Ministries in Lake City, SC.  We love trying new local restaurants!  A couple of our favorites are Tubb’s Fish and Shrimp Co. and The Peddler.

Your First Visit

During your first visit, you will be greeted by our patient care coordinator and introduced to the office through our Comprehensive Oral Examination. This detailed examination is the foundation of our relationship; therefore, we place a great deal of importance on this visit.
During this visit, we will determine what you value most with your oral health in order to help decide on the best options for your plan of care. After a complete review of your medical and dental health history and a review of any of your questions or concerns, we will begin a series of steps to gather a complete picture of your current oral health. This will include digital radiographs (x-rays), digital pictures, examination of your jaw joints (TMJ) and the associated muscles, examination of hard and soft tissues of the mouth, and an oral cancer screening. After this information is gathered and a preliminary assessment is made, all effort will be made to complete a comfortable dental cleaning at this appointment.  Depending on the presence and severity of any periodontal disease (gum disease), a more thorough cleaning may be necessary and may need to be scheduled for another visit.
During this visit, you will get to meet Dr. Lewis as he attempts to provide a clear explanation of any treatment options you may have. We aim to guide you in making the best decisions for your oral health.
Our ultimate goal is to make this a relaxing and enjoyable experience! In order to provide you with a consistently comfortable experience, certain comfort items will be available to you.
Comfort Items Included:
  • BEATS WIRELESS NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES: Cancel out some of the uncomfortable noises associated with visiting the dentist. Feel free to use them for listening to music through your phone or for watching your favorite Netflix show on our ceiling-mounted smart TV during your appointment.
  • SMART TV’S: One wall-mounted and one ceiling-mounted in each treatment room for you to watch your favorite show or listen to music.
  • WARM BLANKET: Always freezing at the dentist? We offer clean, warm blankets for use during your appointment!
  • LIP BALM: Dental appointments tend to make your mouth feel extra dry. Enjoy a complimentary lip balm to prevent dry, cracked lips.
  • NITROUS OXIDE or ORAL SEDATION: For an extra fee, we are able to utilize nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) or oral sedation to relieve dental anxiety and help you relax during your appointment.
  • COLD DRINKS & COFFEE BAR: While in the lobby, make yourself at home and enjoy a cold drink or hot cup of coffee from our coffee bar!
We hope to welcome you into our Florence Dentistry Co. family very soon!

Cleaning & Wellness Screening

Your oral health is very important to us, and we strive to provide you with the best dental care possible. During your cleaning and wellness screening, Dr. Lewis will review your medical and dental health histories and answer any questions or concerns you may have in order to gather a complete picture of your current oral health.

Emergency Dental Care

Emergencies happen to the best of us. If you’re experiencing discomfort or high sensitivity, it’s best to contact us right away. Waiting can lead to more complicated issues down the road. In most cases, we can get you in on the same day and make you comfortable.
Typical Results: You get out of pain and now have a dentist you trust that won’t judge you.

Cosmetic Dental Services

We offer a variety of cosmetic dental services so that you can feel confident in your smile!  These include whitening, ceramic veneers, composite veneers (bonding), cosmetic crowns and bridges, implant restorations, and straightening with clear orthodontic aligners.
No need to be nervous about how your teeth are going to look following treatment!  In some cases, we are able to see the end result before we even get started with treatment by utilizing a diagnostic wax-up.  Often times, we can even use this wax-up to give you a “trial smile”, where you can get an idea of how your teeth will look at the end of treatment without any permanent alterations being made.
Call or schedule a consultation with us to see how we can improve your smile!
Typical Results: You have a clear path to getting the smile you’ve always dreamed of!

OUR SERVICES

Preventative & Periodontal Services

Depending on the condition of your gums, we will recommend a preventative treatment/cleaning (for healthy gums) or a type of periodontal therapy (for patients with gingivitis or gum disease) and will customize an ongoing hygiene schedule.

Digital Impressions

Digital impressions avoid the use of uncomfortable and messy putty trays. This allows for extremely accurate impressions, higher quality outcomes, less chair time, and an improved overall experience.

Implant Restoration

In most cases, dental implants offer a far superior solution for the replacement of missing teeth when compared to bridges and partial/complete dentures. Dr. Lewis has trained extensively in the restoration of dental implants.

Dentures/Partial Dentures

A removable dental prosthesis such as a partial denture or complete denture is an option when multiple teeth are lost. Dentures can be a more functional tooth replacement option when dental implants are added for retention of the prosthesis.

Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is a treatment that removes a damaged or dead nerve and replaces it with an inert material. In most cases, we recommend a crown be placed soon after a root canal in order to maintain the strength of the tooth.

Night Guards/Occlusal Guards

Nighttime grinding or clenching of your teeth often leads to significant tooth wear, muscle tightness, and/or pain associated with the jaw joints (the Temporomandibular Joint or “TMJ”). If you are having jaw pain or if we notice excessive amounts of tooth wear, a custom occlusal guard may be recommended.

Dental Crowns

In cases of fractures, cracks, previous dental restorations, or significant loss of tooth structure, a crown/cap is recommended to restore the tooth. We use the latest technology and highest quality materials and laboratories in order to provide you with a natural-looking and functional restoration.

Dental Fillings

We use only the best materials available for routine dental fillings and do not use dental amalgam as we believe that modern adhesive dentistry provides a more functional and esthetic option for dental restorations.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a way to replace one or two missing teeth. A bridge is essentially two or more crowns with a false tooth bonded to them. Bridges leave a lot to be desired functionally, and many times dental implants are a better treatment option.

Cosmetic Crowns and Veneers

When optimal esthetics is desired, cosmetic crowns and/or veneers may be an option. Utilizing models of your teeth, pictures, and wax-ups/mock-ups ("trial smile") to plan your treatment, you will have a vision of your new smile before even starting.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in our office. Teeth whitening is a quick and effective way to gain confidence in your smile. We have several options.

Clear/Orthodontic Aligners

Orthodontic clear aligners are available to straighten your teeth and bite. We offer a FREE 3D scan and consultation to our current patients.
